Concrete is a material often considered to be cheap, industrial and inert. The outcomes from this project aims to highlight the material in unorthodox applications and thus draw attention to its presence and properties, with the aim of creating more awareness of materials which surround us in everyday life and break away from traditional notions of style, perfection and value.
The load stool explores using the concrete’s weight and density as a key factor in the design, with the timber legs being pressed onto the frame under the weight of the concrete.
This approach involves the concrete in a vital role, with the timber components relying solely on the concrete for its structural integrity, whilst also allowing for user interaction with the material.
